異文化との仕事上の交流がありますと、日本人独特の文化について英語で説明しなければいけない局面が多々あります。なかなか難しいので、以前ふと本屋で見つけたこの本を購入し、試しに読んでみました。左側に日本語、右側に英訳があって、とても読みやすく、また、この大ベストセラーをまだ読んでいなかったので、ようやく今回読んだわけですが、非常に面白い内容でした。武士道からグローバリゼーションまで、シンプルで共感できる話が満載です。"人間は利害損失で動くように、99%は生存本能の遺伝子によって支配されているけど、残りの1%を何で埋めるかが重要"、ぼくもそう思います。

Few Japanese people in their seventies can speak English well,so all they can do when they go abroad is grin away merrily.Western people thus got the idea that Japanese had great emotional depth.
Recently,however,young Japanese chatter away in English despite having nothing whatsoever to say,thus exposing the fact that Japanese people are completely empty-headed.These characters,who are good at English(and English only) despite having nothing to say,damage the image of the Japanese.They do not mean to do any them,but still they tarnish the image of the many Japanese who are unable to speak fluent English but do,in fact,have something worthwhile to say.I would prefer if these hollow-headed English chatterboxes kept their mouths shut when they went abroad.........(The dignity of the nationより一部抜粋)
